It taps into the acoustic delicacy of chamber music, the urgency and volume of post punk and rock, and the intricacy of contemporary electronic music. As dancers ran, froze and crashed into each other and footsteps echoed in our ears the music began to create itself, painting landscapes and underscoring bodies, communicating through powerful, wordless gestures The band spent two years among the dancers, and when the time came to fly away, the music continued to evolve and exude intangible, physical qualities.

The next release of theirs, Scrap Book, featured rare and unreleased songs from the band, some alternative versions of songs, and a handful covers by some very noteworthy names (The Smiths, Joy Division, John Frusciante, Leonard Cohen).Ĭode: Bell Orchestre - Recording A Tape The Colour Of The Light About the Artist: The band is: Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire) on upright bass/keyboard/percussion, Sarah Neufeld (Arcade Fire) on violin, Stefan Schneider (IKS) on drums/percussion, Pietro Amato (Torngat) on French horn/electronics, and Kaveh Nabatian on Trumpet/Melodica, with Mike Feurstack (Wooden Stars/Snailhouse) playing Lap Steel Guitar on happy occasions. Unfortunately, this was also their swan song, since they broke up a little while after. The production work is astounding, featuring the array of instrumentation seamlessly blending together, the harmonies are top-notch here, and the production work is an even bigger step up, since they worked with with Sad Robot Records (Bridwell temporarily shut down Brown Records). Each song is dripping with mourning and loss, and they weigh heavy on the listener, curled up in the fetal position. This is easily one of my favourite albums ever, their most highly regarded, and overall the soundtrack to sadness. The follow-up to this was their seminal album Songs About Leaving. This is an absolutely amazing with some stunning standout songs ('All Apologies And Smiles, Yours Truly, Ugly Valentine', The Color That Your Eyes Changed With The Color Of Your Hair', 'Brooke Daniels' Tiny Broken Finger', 'The Part About The Vine Thats Growing Through The Window And Reaching Towards My Bed').
